Albert Einstein
As a young
physicist completing post-doctoral training, Guy von Dardel
traveled to Princeton, New Jersey, to personally request Albert Einstein to
assist in searching for and obtaining the release of Raoul
Wallenberg from the Soviet Union. In response, Einstein wrote a letter to
Joseph Stalin requesting his assistance to determine whether Raoul Wallenberg was in Soviet captivity and allow him to
return to Sweden. It is known that Stalin read the letter but made no further
effort to respond to the request. At the time, the Soviets had yet to admit
that Wallenberg had been taken prisoner in Budapest and that he was being held
captive in Moscow.
